How to add a visible signature to a PDF.

Draw, type or upload a signature, place it accurately on a PDF page and save a copy. Understand the limits before using it for a form.

Check what kind of signature the recipient needs

PDF Toolbox adds a visible signature mark to a page. It does not verify who signed, add a digital certificate, provide a signing workflow or create an audit trail. If the recipient specifies a particular signing service or certificate, use that process. Avoid editing a PDF that already has a certificate signature unless you understand how the change affects it.

1. Open the PDF and select the page

Go to Sign PDF, choose your document and set Page to sign. Page 1 means the first page of the file, regardless of the printed page number. Review the preview so you know you are working on the correct page.

2. Create the visible signature

Type your name, draw with a mouse or touchscreen, or upload a JPG or PNG signature image up to 5 MB. A PNG with a transparent background avoids an opaque rectangle over the page. Use Clear signature to start again. Your signature is processed on your device along with the PDF.

3. Place and size the signature

Use Signature width to change its size. Choose a bottom position from the menu, or click or tap the page preview to position the signature yourself. Check that the full mark stays inside the page and does not cover printed text, dates or other form fields.

4. Save and inspect the downloaded PDF

Choose Save signed PDF, then open the result and inspect the signed page at a readable zoom. Keep the original separately. If you need a second visible signature on another page, load the saved result back into Sign PDF and repeat the steps for that page. Review the final version after the last change.

Complete form fields before adding the mark

If the PDF contains supported interactive fields, complete them in Fill PDF Forms first. The signing tool places a mark on a page; it does not fill text boxes or certificate signature fields. For a scanned form without interactive fields, ask for a fillable version or use an editor that supports adding the required text.

If the position looks wrong

Reopen the original and check the selected page, preview and width before saving again. Rotate a sideways page with Rotate PDF before placing the signature if that makes the document easier to work with. Do not assume a successful download means the mark is in the intended place.
