HOW IT WORKS

How to use Add Page Numbers

  1. 01

Choose a PDF and the pages to number.

  2. 02

Set the number format, starting number, position and margin.

  3. 03

Preview a page, then save your numbered PDF.

Number only the pages that need it

To leave a cover unnumbered, select pages starting at page 2 and set Starting number to 1. Numbers advance through the selected pages. The “1 of 10” style uses the end number of the selected sequence, not necessarily the full document’s page count. Preview the position to avoid covering existing text.

GOOD TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

Can numbering start at a different number?

Yes. Set the starting number, and choose a plain number, “Page 1”, or “1 of 10” format. Only selected pages receive a number.

Does this preserve selectable text?

Page numbers are added as text overlays. Existing page text and images are not rasterised.

Is this PDF tool free?

Yes. All 15 tools are free to use without an account. Large or complex PDFs may exceed your browser’s available memory; try a smaller file or a computer if that happens.

Can I use password-protected PDFs?

Use Unlock PDF with a valid password first, if you are authorised to remove protection. These editing tools require an unencrypted PDF.
